Wie können Übergänge gestaltet und moderiert werden?

Generationenwechsel in der Musiktherapieausbildung / How can transitions be shaped and facilitated? Generational change in music therapy training

Abstract

In society as a whole, demographic change is leading to major upheaval in the working landscape which also affects educational institutions and universities. Long-standing faculty members are retiring and being succeeded by a younger generation. This generational change includes group dynamics, many organizational and content-related challenges, and is situated at the interplay of tradition and innovation. By example of the Viennese music therapy training, we will explore how such transitions can be shaped and moderated, and what questions remain unanswered in the process. Building upon principles of sociology and organizational psychology, the current situation in the Viennese music therapy training is described with a historical view of development processes. Based on experiences from a facilitated generation workshop, the importance of mutual engagement, especially in terms of perception of one’s image of oneself and others, will be illustrated. Expectations, potential areas of conflict, and approaches for dealing with team-relevant phenomena are presented for discussion.
